Today’s guest post comes as a result of my interactions on twitter.
@nykingmd submitted his blog for consideration and I decided to feature this:
Someone once told me …. on the positive tip
As I continue with my daily self inventories, I would be remiss if I did not include the things someone has told me that offered encouragement and inspiration …. to that end:
SOMEONE once told me: “you know I prayed for you” – – at the time I didn’t know how to respond to the 76 year old black woman, who was recovering from her second stroke in a year. I just looked deeply into my Aunt Bessie’s eyes and thanked her, cried, and told her ” I know, it’s the only reason I am still here” …
SOMEONE once told me: “you are much more than you lead people to believe, why are you short-changing us and yourself”? – – the person who told me this immediately launched me into a non-stop mission to help as many people as I possibly could. I threw myself into helping youth at risk, and anyone else who needed assistance. I didn’t know how to do this, other than speaking to them directly in assemblies or in other forums. The reward for me was in knowing that i just may have been able to help someone who didn’t have a voice.
SOMEONE once told me: “you are the greatest dad I know” – – my brother told me this as I assured him that he would do a good job in helping his son, whom he had not seen since he was 3 months old (he is now 17). But that is typical of my brother Latif. He inspires me when I least expect it. He up lifts, and supports me and i do the same for him. Yet his comment came to me as an acknowledgement of all the love I have poured into all of my children. For him to say this to me, means the world and it is something that i will always cherish..
What has someone told you that has led you on to greater things in your life?
